Ingredients:
- 2 cups dried yellow split peas
- 1-1/2 Tbsp. olive oil
- 1-1/2 Tbsp cumin seeds
- 5 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 dried New Mexico chilies
- 1 large onion, diced
- 2 tomatoes
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
- 1/2 tsp cumin powder
- 1/2 tsp coriander
- 1/4 tsp chili powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric
- 3/4 cup cilantro as garnish
Steps:
- Soak peas 10-14 hours.
- Heat oil, saute cumin seeds, then add garlic, chilies, and onions.
- Add tomatoes and remaining spices. Stir in split peas. Lower heat and simmer 2 hours.
- Garnish with cilantro if desired.
