Biotics Research N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine - 180 caps

Biotics Research's N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine supplies N-acetyl-L-cysteine, a derivative of L-Cysteine. NAC is more stable and better absorbed than L-Cysteine. A potent antioxidant and a precursor to glutathione, NAC is hepatoprotective.

Mitochondria are “unusual organelles” within cells. They are commonly referred to as “the powerhouse of cells.” They are unusual in that they are surrounded by a double membrane and contain their own genome. Mitochondrial division is stimulate by energy demand, so cells with an increased energy need, such as those found in heart, brain and muscle tissues, contain greater numbers of these mitochondria organelles. Cellular energy production relies on proper mitochondrial function. Due to changes in mitochondria that occur as we age, cells have less ability to produce energy (ATP) from a process known as phosphorylation. Fatigue and other unwanted conditions are associated with mitochondrial dysfunction.

NAC is a precursor for the production of Glutathione (GSH), an important intracellular antioxidant, and a critical component of the immune system. NAC also exhibits its own antioxidant properties, which contribute to the protection of mitochondrial proteins. NAC has been shown to improve mitochondrial energy production and efficiency. NAC also plays a role in the development of the central nervous system, modulation of gene-expression, and inhibits NF-kappaB activation, which if left unchecked, would result in the initiation of inflammatory processes.
