Biotics Research's BioProtect Plus supplies a wide spectrum of antioxidant nutrients to assist in the bodies ability to quench free radicals, which can cause biological damage to cells. Similar to our current product, BioProtect™, this new product also provides vitamin D3, vitamin K, green tea extract, quercetin, grape seed extract, and olive extract. BioProtect Plus™ is gluten and dairy free.
The overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) is a common underlying mechanism that may potentially result in undesirable health consequences. These “radical species” are known to cause damage to several cellular components, including proteins, lipids and DNA. In fact, free radicals in the body, especially superoxide (O2-), and non-radicals, such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), can be generated in large quantities, which may overwhelm the protective enzymes, including superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-px). The paradox is that in addition to being vital for life, oxygen also has the potential to create damaging ROS molecules in the body. Vitamins and their metabolites are recognized as essential components for a large number of physiological processes. Likewise, many compounds are beneficial in providing antioxidant benefits. BioProtect Plus™ provides a whole range of antioxidant enzymes, vitamins and mineral that may serve to offset these deleterious effects of free radicals and ROS.
Systemic inflammation and exposure to carcinogens are well recognized factors that contribute to increased oxidative stress, and negatively impact health. Antioxidant enzymes have the capacity to stabilize or deactivate free radicals before they attack cellular components. These enzymes function in the destruction of free radicals by converting them to harmless compounds, which are subsequently eliminated from the body. Numerous agents, including vitamins, minerals, and specific antioxidant components can serve to protect the body's antioxidant system from these reactive compounds. These protective agents include glutathione, catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD), as well as antioxidants such as vitamin E, carotenoids, vitamin C, flavonoids and coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10). BioProtect Plus™ contains these components along with added antioxidant compounds for additional antioxidant support. These additional compounds include Vitamins A and K, natural carotenoids, the minerals Selenium and Zinc, as well as Green tea, L-methionine, Taurine, N-Acetyl‑L‑Cysteine (NAC), Quercetin, L-Glutathione, Grape Seed extract (containing 95% OPCs), and Olive (Olea europae) extract.
